With a 25 year history of falling off skateboards, bikes and surfboards and over twenty years in a job that’s “bad for your back” I felt that my body was beginning to seize up, finding that I was carrying lots of pain and restriction to movement of my neck and shoulders. I’ve never had good posture either, Paul and Amanda have given me a good understanding of the impingement associated with my shoulder, along with a bespoke programme of exercises to make me pain free!!! I am also benefiting from an improved posture. Believe it or not, I’m more flexible and slightly taller than I was 5 years ago!

In 2005 Pilates was recommended to me as an alternative to Yoga. I had an assessment session with Paul who asked me what I was hoping to achieve - lose weight, reduce my handicap, get a six pack?

I said that at 77 I just wanted to keep active. (I did, in fact, lose weight and reduce my handicap).

For the last 15 years I have had regular sessions with Paul at times that have suited me. In those years I have had life threatening accidents and Pilates has helped in my rehabilitation. I doubt that I would have reached nearly 92 without the excellent work that Paul does with me in his very well equipped and modern Studio.

I have been a cyclist for many years but a recurring problem has been a totally showstopping leg pain, similar to cramp, when I train heavily for an event and then have a day off! I have sought help and advice from doctors, sports injury specialists and others but nobody understood the problem or could constructively help - until I met Paul!

Paul analysed my training and physical condition and looked carefully at movement and agility issues built up over years of being on the bike. He developed exercises specifically to help and, wonders of wonders, he cured the problem in just a few short months. Years later and marathon touring events and the old problem is still well and truly under control. Thank you Paul. You can only imagine how grateful I am.

Having been referred to Pure Pilates because it is the only comprehensively equipped studio in the area. This level of service and knowledge exceed my experience in the USA, where I worked for many years. Returning back to the UK and not wanting to hang up my golf bag, Paul at Pure Pilates has helped my rehabilitation through back and hip surgery. The use of the equipment under Paul’s guidance helps to address specific issues and I can honestly say has allowed me to return to some of my best golfing form of my life!!

As a Doctor with an interest in trauma, and being well aware of the body’s ability to heal and recover after major insult, I was slightly sceptical about outside influences in the process, ie. physiotherapy, chiropractic and osteopathy, but with the use of the Reformer and Ladder Barrel under Paul’s supervision and guidance the whole dynamics of my locomotive system greatly improved to my enjoyment. Following total right knee replacement in 2019, I was left with 50% of knee movements and restricted, painful left hip movements to the extent that I experienced pain at rest! These disabilities are greatly improved and my core stability and muscle balance have given me a new lease of life.

When I was taken critically ill in 2016 with an autoimmune failure, I was a fit and healthy 26 year old, suddenly having to learning to walk and talk again. I am well on my way to full recovery; Paul at the Pure Pilates Studio has been an essential member of my rehabilitation team and I wouldn’t be where I am now without his skill and dedication.

I was referred to the Pure Pilates Studio by my GP after a month’s stay in hospital when I had weak muscles and sciatic pain, having lost two and half stones after a series of operations. The idea was to attend a few Pilates sessions to learn exercises that I could perform at home for rehabilitation. However, I found using the machines in the studio was more effective and enjoyable than having to find the time and the motivation to do exercises at home. I recovered within months, but ten years later I’m still attending weekly studio sessions.  I found with tailor made exercises each time, I was gaining general fitness which has meant at seventy years I can still enjoy 10 mile rambles and keep up with the more demanding gardening tasks. I can thoroughly recommend the studio sessions for anyone wanting to increase their core strength and range of movements in an uplifting atmosphere.
